3D Printing a Product Prototype for Kleen Detergents' New Bottle

Before a new product goes into production, someone usually needs to hold it — not look at it on a screen, actually hold it. That's the gap that brought Kleen Detergents to our studio: a new bottle design that existed as a file, but needed to exist as an object before their factory could tool up to make it for real.

A physical reference before the factory floor

Kleen Detergents needed a mockup of their new bottle to send on to the factory that would be manufacturing it — something the production team could hold, measure, and check against before committing to a mold. A 3D print is a fast, low-cost way to get there: far cheaper and quicker than a first-run injection-molded sample, and accurate enough to catch proportion or fit issues before expensive tooling gets cut.

Printed true to scale, in PLA

We printed the bottle at 298mm — its actual intended size, not a scaled-down stand-in — so what shipped off to the factory was a true reference, not an approximation. PLA was the right call here: the mockup didn't need to hold liquid or survive daily handling, it needed sharp, accurate geometry, and PLA holds detail and dimensional accuracy better than almost anything else we run. Happy enough to order a second one, days later

Kleen ordered one mockup first — and came back for a second shortly after, before we'd even finished catching our breath from the first. That kind of fast repeat order is usually the clearest sign a client got what they needed, and it showed up soon after in a glowing five-star Google review about how quick and professional the turnaround was.
